As a friend told me last week, God works in mysterious ways—mysterious to us, but not mysterious to Him.
I opened an email from my cover designer on Thursday evening, unsuspecting of what it held. She had been struggling with the current cover design for Voice of the Ashes, thinking it too dark for the story and audience. I understood her point … and I also understood that redesigning would upset our launch schedule, since we were only four days away from release.
But I agreed to try again, trusting that God’s timing is better than mine, trusting Samantha’s judgement since she had seen the cover in person and I hadn’t.
I’ve seen God work in those mysterious ways over the past months, and then gift me with the knowledge of why He worked things the way He did.
Back in December, I made the decision to audit an online course instead of going for the certificate version. My reason? I was planning to pitch my second novel to a publisher and I knew I would need the extra time for editing.
The door closed for a book pitch when the publisher decided not to open for submissions after all, and I wondered why things had worked out that way.
Until my publishing team proposed that we move my book release from April to February. I needed the extra time to plan and put in action a book launch.
Thank you, God, for your working.
That opened up a new possibility—participating in an author event I’ve dreamed of for years, but knew was taking place too early for me to have my books. Then I contacted the bookstore and they informed me that they aren’t holding an author event this year.
Initially, I was disappointed. But when I looked back at how God had worked in other areas, I realised that He always has a reason.
And I choose to look ahead with excitement for what He has in store.
I realise this change in launch plans may be disappointing to some of you. It may be inconvenient. It may be hard to have the cover switched on you so suddenly. I’m sorry if that’s the case.
Please bear with me in this season of change and unexpected turns … and take a moment to look back at your own life and thank God for how He has worked in mysterious ways.
